Navigating the Great Divergence: A Reflection on 1st Timothy 4:1-5 and the Spiritual Battle of Our Times
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.” (1 Timothy 4:1-5)
All across the globe today, we are bearing witness to a profound historical and spiritual shift. We are seeing two distinct movements unfolding before our very eyes, pulling humanity in opposite directions.
One movement is firmly on the side of good and of God. This spiritual awakening is rising up in worship, in praise, and in the relentless seeking of God’s guidance, grace, and mercy. A revival has been brought upon the world as we navigate the complexities of what the Bible defines as the latter days. Now, do not misunderstand me when I use the phrase “last days.” For the Scripture reminds us that God’s timing and human timing are two entirely different realms—a thousand years to the Lord are like a single day. Yet, the things predicted in the ancient texts are coming true day by day, week by week, and year by year. The movement to stand strong with God is challenged every single day, tested by the friction of a culture that grows increasingly hostile to absolute truth.
Conversely, the opposing movement runs straight toward the pitfalls of darkness. It is a movement characterized by cultural decay, poor behavior, vile practices, deceit, dishonesty, theft, and a general erosion of human dignity. These are the very antitheses of God’s design—manifestations of the corruptive influences that scripture warns us against. Suddenly, we are being bombarded by this filth every single day, every time we look at the internet or open social media. We witness major corporations pivoting away from traditional values to champion contentious cultural ideologies. We see societal norms shifting so rapidly that behaviors once recognized as inappropriate or harmful are now celebrated in the public square.
We live in an era where public discourse has degraded into hostility. If you express a difference of opinion, people do not merely engage in debate; rather, they resort to cyber-bullying, public shaming, and physical intimidation because they believe force is the only way to win an argument. Communities in major cities grapple with rising crime, while political factions point fingers, driving wedge issues of race and class, and systematically dismantling the traditional family unit. Corporations are pressured to conform to minority belief systems under the threat of economic cancellation.
In the face of this cultural pressure, God has called us to stand strong. As for me and my house, we will stand with God. I refuse to be silenced or censored for my beliefs. I have already faced online backlash, criticism on my blog, and pushback across several social media accounts simply because I am a Christian who believes in faith, family, friends, and a traditional, wholesome way of life.
When I read online comments screaming about “hating God” or declaring that “there is no God,” it does not make me angry; it makes me deeply sad for them. Why are they so agitated, lost, and distracted by the fleeting ways of the world? Men are men, and women are women. God created people with immutable biological distinctions. Thoughts, feelings, or emotions cannot alter foundational biological realities. I am not saying people should not live their own lives, but I am saying that at some point, a reckoning will happen. These earthly moral departures and societal delusions will inevitably catch up with a culture that tries to rewrite creation.
Right now, one side is actively pushing away from God, while the other is striving to draw closer to Him. I remember a time when a lady attacked me online simply because I wrote an article about God and faith. I responded in kind by asking her a straightforward question: “Do you buy lottery tickets?” Assuming her answer was yes, the reason people buy them is to take a chance on winning a life-altering prize. But to win, you have to hold that ticket.
Think of faith in God in a similar manner. You are taking a step of faith toward the biggest win your soul could ever experience by embracing the grace offered to us. The difference is that Christ’s ticket has already been bought and paid for on the cross. To completely reject faith is to gamble eternally with your soul, dismissing the profound hope found in the Creator.
Do not blindly follow the shifting, unstable ways of the world. Read the epistles of Timothy and seek divine guidance on how to navigate and avoid the traps of worldly corruption.
