What’s the first impression you want to give people?

When I meet someone, I want them to see me for who I am as a person. I try to be the same all the time. Honest, dependable, caring, kind and faithful. I spend my life wanting to be an impact on other people and their lives. So many people try to impress others and it is amazing the persona they want to give people but it is fake and really not them. Then those people figure out the fakeness of that person and do not want to be around them. In my teaching and coaching career, I have had some great accomplishments that I do not talk about. At my current job, the head coach I am now assisting in wrestling after 15 years of head coaching told the team about some of my career stats.

Those guys were amazed at the numbers I had produced as far as wins, state champions, conference titles, coach of the year awards, etc. I do not promote that or talk about those things with the kids. My parents taught me to be humble, serve people and work hard. I just want people to see me for who I am which is a husband, father, brother, son, friend, coach, teacher, mentor and person of faith. If they see that then one day when I am laid down to eternal rest a nice line of folks lined up to see me off to the great beyond saying, man, he was a genuine good man that loved his family, community and God”
