Echoes of Mercy (Expanded Edition) Poem I wrote many years ago after having a dream about Jesus on the cross and the pain and suffering he had as a result of it. He came to earth, lived, died and rose for our sins. I hope you enjoy “Echoes of Mercy” as you imagine it echoing out across the valley from that ancient hill where he bled for you and I.
Revised and Re-imagined with Prayerful Reflection
Echoes of Mercy, he was sent to this earth
Echoes of Mercy, to give his light its birth
Echoes of Mercy, a star in a cold, dark night
Echoes of Mercy, to guide the lost to light
Echoes of Mercy, convicted by man
Echoes of Mercy, took a beating by hand
Echoes of Mercy, scourged for our pride
Echoes of Mercy, His sacred blood denied
Echoes of Mercy, he carried the cross
Echoes of Mercy, each step a desperate loss
Echoes of Mercy, the weight of our shame
Echoes of Mercy, the world bore His name
Echoes of Mercy, he paid for the loss
Echoes of Mercy, the price sin exacted—cost
Echoes of Mercy, he hung on the cross
Echoes of Mercy, the valley below lost
Echoes of Mercy, he screamed through the pain
Echoes of Mercy, His voice broke the chain—
“Why have You forsaken Me?” the hills did repeat
Echoes of Mercy, the heavens wept bitter sweat
Echoes of Mercy, some hailed him as king
Echoes of Mercy, while others their heads would shake, condemned
Echoes of Mercy, the echoes went out
Echoes of Mercy, across a broken world, “Awake, my love, be found.”
Echoes of Mercy, he didn’t deserve that crown of thorns
Echoes of Mercy, yet bore our mockery, the nails, the scorn
Echoes of Mercy, as blood violently spills
Echoes of Mercy, the earth trembled; the veil split in two—a promise fulfilled
Echoes of Mercy, the dawn breaks in dark
Echoes of Mercy, His light no night can quench
Echoes of Mercy, the Light of the World, outstretched and near
Echoes of Mercy, He catches the sinner, the beggar, the seer
Echoes of Mercy, to those who stumble, who yearn
Echoes of Mercy, His arms are wide, eternal, un-burned
Echoes of Mercy, no soul too far gone
Echoes of Mercy, His mercy extends beyond
Echoes of Mercy, though some turn away
Echoes of Mercy, His love never sways
Echoes of Mercy, the grave could not hold
Echoes of Mercy, the risen One, living, bold!
Echoes of Mercy, he went to the grave
Echoes of Mercy, but death could not crave
Echoes of Mercy, He burst forth in might
Echoes of Mercy, to destroy the chains of night
Echoes of Mercy, he rose for all to save
Echoes of Mercy, the tomb could not cage the Love that came to stay
Echoes of Mercy, He conquered all sin
Echoes of Mercy, the Lamb who now reigns
Echoes of Mercy, the champion, Jesus, for the win
Echoes of Mercy, the battle’s already been won
Echoes of Mercy, two paths lie ahead
Echoes of Mercy, One leads to the dead, one where the saints tread
Echoes of Mercy, if doubt clouds your sight
Echoes of Mercy, cry out in the night—He will make all things right
Echoes of Mercy, His grace is your plea
Echoes of Mercy, come, kneel at the cross, and choose to be free.
Note from the Heart:
This poem is a labor of decades—nurtured by dreams, prayer, and the relentless love of a Savior who screams mercy even when we cannot hear Him. May these echoes carry you to the foot of the cross, where the Light of the World meets the darkest valleys. If your spirit stirs, do not ignore it—ask, seek, knock. The invitation is eternal.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
