In my 58 years on this earth I have made many sacrifices. The most obvious is as a career teacher and coach for the last 30 years or so I have spent tons of time at school away from the house and the family. Do not get me wrong, along that path I got to coach my own daughters and my wife is always involved somehow with my teams as a team mom, supporting, watching and rooting teams on. In that journey, I have worked probably 60-70 hours a week during the months of August-February. I am a career football and wrestling coach.
The unique part about being a football coach is that the job is minimum six days a week. We practice on Monday-Weds, have a JV game on Thursday, Varsity game on friday. Watch film and scout the next team on Saturday and then meet on Sunday to plan for the next game. It is a lot of time away from the family and at times exhausting. The average day for a coach in high school including teaching duties is probably 12 hours minimum. Some days go into the 15-18 hour period on Friday nights by the time we travel, play, travel back, clean up, wind down and get home.

As a career wrestling coach, this one may be even more demanding. We have either practice or events M-F. Then on Saturday all winter for about 12-13 of the 16 weekends we are gone on Saturday to an event. We normally meet at the school around 6:00am, sometimes earlier to travel to an event. Then the event itself may not end until late afternoon. By the time we travel back, unwind, clean up and start the laundry it is dark outside just like it was that morning. Those days can easily get into the 15-18 hour timeframe and doing that every weekend except Thanksgiving and Christmas takes a toll on the mind, body and spirit.
I have made other sacrifices if it is to be considered that. But I believe that it is my duty and role to make sure that my wife and kids are safe, provided for and have what they need. I at times worked all week coaching, teaching and doing games on Friday. Then would go get on a 26-28 foot truck and deliver furniture up and down the east coast of America. I may get home at midnight from football. Sleep 2-3 hours, get up at 5:00am Saturday morning and go get on a truck and drive from North Carolina to New York, Jersey, Virginia, S Carolina, Florida etc and then work another 15 hours delivering furniture. All in an effort to maintain my family and get ahead.

Other sacrifices are numerous, but being gone as a hard working dad and husband is probably the biggest. But reality is, that my family made the sacrifice. My wife made the sacrifice so I could chase my dreams of being a championship coach which I have accomplished a few times along the way. Men, do what you have to do to take care of the babies and the wife (nothing illegal). Work hard, work smart, work as long as you need and wok other side jobs to get where you want to go. To chase dreams, you must be willing to give up something knowing that in the long run you can get that time back later.
Remember, the biggest sacrifice of all was Jesus on that cross. He died for mine and your sins. The next biggest to me is family, friends and others that have served in the armed forces. That is a huge sacrifice and some unfortunately gave it all for your freedom. So next time you want to whine about gas, eggs, politics, etc. Think about those that gave you the freedoms to speak, think, do and post. Be thankful for those that sacrifice for you, especially those that gave it all and are now in heaven with Jesus.
God Bless and have a great day!
