Family favorite meals

Daily writing prompt
What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

My wife and her sisters are all great cooks that learned to cook from my mom in law Roberta (we lost her in 2014). They can prepare anything and it is all very good. My favorite family meal is at Thanksgiving and we all over eat and fill our bellies with scratch made creamy potatoes, turkey, ham, green beans, turkey dressing with giblet gravy, corn casserole, mac and cheese and other tasty goodies. Chocolate cake, pecan pie, strawberry cake and pumpkin squares. Christmas is the same meal mostly and features the added surprise of rice crispy treats and chicken pies. We have lots of family on those days at the house as we host most years and will average about 25-30 people for breakfast and then again at lunch or dinner.

Other than the holidays, my favorite family meals are my wonderful wife of 32 years baked spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, grilled chicken and steaks. She is a great cook and can fix anything on the spot and rarely uses boxed foods to prepare. We try to eat better during the year as the holidays are crunch time for all kinds of goodies and foods that we normally would not eat. We do eat a few nights a week at home and when we do we put down the phones and just communicate like families did back in the day. Those family meals either at home or eating out are important and build memories and keep us connected. The younger kids do not always like having to sit without phones, games or computers for a little while. But they will get over it and one day will cherish those precious family minutes and moments when the older generation is gone.

I pray you all have a happy holidays and enjoy the tasty goodies whatever that is. Regardless of what you celebrate or do not celebrate, enjoy family meals and cherish them. When you get older into retirement age and your kids are grown and going to 2 separate locations, working, going to ballgames, chasing their kids all over the county for activity and living their best life. You will miss those family meals. How I would love to sit with my mom, dad and in-laws for a great Holiday meal full of laughter, stories, funny times and even a little drama hear and there. God Bless and happy meal time folks!
