How to Discover Your Spiritual Gifts: A Biblical Guide

Unveiling God’s Gifts: What the Bible Says About Spiritual Gifts

I want to preface this piece of writing by saying that all of my life I have had a knack for finding myself in very unexplainable situations, paranormal activity and intuition that I did not understand. It started when I was around 8-9 years old and I witnessed /observed things that people may consider to be crazy or spiritual. I accumulated these in my mind and in 2020 when I had a very unique situation happen where I crossed over during a medical procedure and was gone for several minutes. In that process, I was sent back and was different.

I have been a believer in God since I was a small kid and he is still very important in my life. If you go back and read some of my early writings on this blog entitled Spirit Chronicles; you will be able to read some of the hundreds of experiences I have had along the way. I do not fully understand it, not do I pursue it. It tends to find me or spirit tends to find me. I am a man of Christ and truly believe that I was gifted this talent for a reason. I have been able to solve things, see things and give people information so specific that it blew their mind. This is not stuff you can get off the internet or out of a trash can. This is not a hoax and I can do it when I want to. Most of the time I block spirit and cleanse myself with prayer and water when it gets strong.

I have a unique gift to be able to fight very malevolent demons and spirits that are unlike anything Hollywood could create. I just had an encounter the other night in my sleep. These are spiritual and physical attacks where I fend them off, often times using Gods word to send them away. I have seen and heard horrible things, but I sleep well knowing that I am protected and will be safe from all harm and evil as God is on my side. I have actually detected and ran one out of a room for a friend of the family that was being haunted from 600 miles away on a cruise ship. Yes, this sounds amazing and full of it. But it is my life, my activity and my experiences that shape me daily and nightly.

I have never used it for profit or gain. I generally keep it under the covers and do not talk about it. I have personal friends that I helped with spirit and they felt so much better after talking to them. I have been told by some people that are semi famous for doing this that I am very strong and have no idea what I can do or am capable of. Maybe one day I will figure it out fully. But if not, as long as I can continue to help people from behind the scenes to get rid of demons and ghosts then I do not need to see what I can really do.

I can tell you that when a friend lost a loved one and was struggling mightily. The mom came across and I was able to tell him that his mom said, “It is ok sweety, I am fine and will be near you always”. Then a Red bird flew by and sat down on his truck hood. His mom loved Red Birds and he knew instantly that spirit had worked on his behalf so he could heal. I could tell you hundreds of the these encounters as proof of what spirit is. Spirit is the grace of God and his powerful spiritual presence that is never wavering. It is what allows us to contact or be contacted by our lost loved ones.

The Christian faith is built on the idea that God equips believers for service and ministry. A key aspect of this equipping is the concept of spiritual gifts – special abilities bestowed by the Holy Spirit to empower Christians to build up the church and reach a lost world. But what exactly does the Bible say about these gifts? Let’s delve into Scripture to explore their nature, purpose, and importance.

What are Spiritual Gifts?

The Bible describes spiritual gifts as supernatural abilities freely given by the Holy Spirit to each believer. They are not natural talents refined through practice, although God can certainly use our natural abilities. Instead, they are divinely empowered capacities that enable us to fulfill God’s purposes in extraordinary ways. I refer to 1 Corinthians 12-14 as to the gifts that I have been given. I can discern good and bad spirits and know things for some reason that others do not.

Key passages that discuss spiritual gifts include:

  • Romans 12:6-8: This passage emphasizes the diverse nature of gifts, highlighting prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and showing mercy.
  • 1 Corinthians 12-14: This is arguably the most comprehensive section on spiritual gifts. It describes a variety of gifts, including wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. This passage also emphasizes the importance of unity and love in exercising these gifts.
  • Ephesians 4:11-13: Here, the focus is on equipping the saints for ministry. It mentions apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers, highlighting their vital role in building up the body of Christ.
  • 1 Peter 4:10-11: This passage underscores that each person has received a gift and should use it to serve others faithfully, as good stewards of God’s grace.

The Purpose of Spiritual Gifts

The Bible clearly states that spiritual gifts are not for personal aggrandizement or to show off one’s piety. Instead, they are given for specific purposes: This is why I would never do this for personal gain or financial reasons. I honestly feel like I could do it fulltime and make a much better living but that is not my reason. I serve a powerful and almighty God and he is the reason I do it when called upon. Being able to work with spirit is a gift and I believe it can be taken as quickly as it was given. I believe that it has to be for the betterment of the soul and the human condition. Referencing below 1 Peter, 4:10.

  • To Build Up the Church (1 Corinthians 14:12, Ephesians 4:12): The primary purpose of spiritual gifts is to strengthen and edify the body of Christ. They contribute to the spiritual growth, maturity, and unity of believers.
  • To Serve Others (1 Peter 4:10): We are called to use our gifts to minister to the needs of those around us, both within the church and in the wider community.
  • To Glorify God (1 Peter 4:11): Ultimately, spiritual gifts are intended to bring glory to God. When we use our gifts effectively, we demonstrate God’s power and grace to the world.
  • To Be Witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 12:7): Spiritual gifts empower believers to share the Gospel and demonstrate the reality of Christ in tangible ways.

Important Principles Regarding Spiritual Gifts

While the Bible encourages us to desire and cultivate spiritual gifts, it also emphasizes certain principles:

  • Every Believer Has a Gift (1 Corinthians 7:7, 1 Peter 4:10): The Bible teaches that every believer in Christ is given at least one spiritual gift.
  • Gifts are Distributed by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11): The Holy Spirit sovereignly decides who receives which gift, according to His perfect wisdom and purpose.
  • Love is Essential (1 Corinthians 13): This chapter famously emphasizes that even the most powerful spiritual gifts are meaningless without love. Love should be the motivating force behind all our actions.
  • Order and Edification are Important (1 Corinthians 14:26-40): When exercising gifts in public worship, it is crucial to maintain order and ensure that the activity is edifying to everyone present.
  • Gifts are Not a Sign of Superiority (1 Corinthians 12:14-26): Just as a body has different parts, each with a unique function, the church has diverse gifts. No gift is superior to another; all are essential for the healthy functioning of the body.

Discovering and Developing Your Gifts

The Bible encourages believers to seek and cultivate their spiritual gifts. Here are some practical steps:

  • Pray for Guidance: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your gifts and guide you in using them effectively.
  • Serve in Different Areas: Experiment with different ministries and activities to discover where your passions and abilities align.
  • Seek Feedback: Ask trusted friends and leaders for their observations and insights.
  • Study Scripture: Continue to deepen your understanding of the Bible and its teachings on spiritual gifts.
  • Be Patient: Discovery and development take time. Trust that God will reveal your gifts in His timing.
  • Be Willing to Serve: The best way to discover your gifts is to actively serve others and be open to opportunities that God presents.

Conclusion

I have been told by some friends that this is of the devil. That I am being deceived. But they do not know me, how I do it and what it does for others. All they have heard is a preacher telling them that it is from the devil and is not what God gives. I disagree with those very deeply devoted beliefs of some churches because the word above explains it to me and fits me as a spirit worker.

Spiritual gifts are a powerful expression of God’s grace, empowering believers to serve, build up the church, and glorify Him. By understanding the biblical principles surrounding these gifts and actively seeking to discover and develop our own, we can play a vital role in fulfilling God’s purpose in the world. Let us embrace the gifts He has given us and strive to use them with love, humility, and a desire to see His Kingdom advance.
