My parents in their late 50’s as I am now were both retired from public service work. My mom was a retired school system employee where she worked for over twenty years until she had to medically retire due to both knees being bad. My dad was a retired police officer who worked 32 years serving the public. Both of my parents were community minded people that loved serving and helping others. Once retired, they began to enjoy their grandchildren and doing some limited traveling. My dad went legally blind due to complications in his vision a few years after retiring and it changed his retirement plans. My mom was steady and continued to take care of my dad until we lost him in 2009.
I had plans to be retired by now as a public school teacher, but have yet to take that leap and go for it. I could walk away and make a decent retirement income (we would live good) and focus on my writing of books, blogging and traveling. But I still coach 30+ years later and work everyday. I also run a website (https://stylessa.com), stream on a live app and do other things. I am still active and in pretty good health so I plan to work a few more years and then walk away and live my best life with my wonderful bride of 32 years. We never know what tomorrow brings for us, so we just work hard, focus on family, friends, faith and goals and wait.
