As a career educator I have attended several colleges/universities as I added to my educational achievements, training and knowledge. I attended a small school in wonderful Banner Elk, NC called Lees-McRae college in the middle 1980’s. It is a small school that sits between two to the highest peaks in the eastern USA and is full of nature, mountains, animals and great people. I then transitioned to App State University just about 25 minutes down the mountain in awesome Boone, NC. After leaving ASU I got a second degree from American Public University in Business so I could teach business classes at the high school level or work in business management. I also attended and graduated from Western Carolina, another great mountain school in NC where I got my Masters Degree in Education. Along the way I have taken some online classes for certain certifications, attended many trainings, camps and other opportunities to advance my educational opportunity, make more money and be more qualified for life and success. As a high school teacher, I realize college is not for everyone so I talk to the students about the options they have upon graduation. 1- College/University, 2- Trade School/Community College Options, 3- Military Service, 4- Go straight into the work force, 5- A combination of all of those. I have been able to use my education to make a good living and be of service in a professional job for a career that will soon come to an end. Consider all your options and know that it is not too late to add to your education/training or start over.
