Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

Daily writing prompt
Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

When I think back on my adult life now at the ripe old age of 57. I think about being closer to retirement and how I should have been more responsible when I was 22-26 years old after getting out of college. I was not a crazy spender, but I did not have the solid foundation of savings, investing and putting away emergency money like I did later in life. I figure I cost myself tens of thousands of dollars by not being financially smart once I got out of college. I enjoyed those years for sure, however, I should have been smarter with things. So this I offer to anyone reading this that is young and starting out.

1- Save 5% of your earnings every pay check.

2- Invest up to 15% of your work pay in a 401K. Minimal invest whatever your company matches if they do so.

3- Have an emergency fund of minimal $1000.00

4- Buy what you need, not what you want. A used truck will get you to work as good as a brand new $80,000 truck will. A 2-3 year old cell phone works just fine.

5- Do “NOT” live off of credit cards and use other peoples money (credit card companies). They will have you hooked for a longtime and break your budget with charges and fees. Buy with cash or do not buy it!

Live your best life, but do not spend it all partying, drinking, traveling and pissing it away. Build your financial future now so you can play later on!
